Marijn van den Berg burst to Stage 2 victory at the Tour de Luxembourg, capping off a powerful performance from his teammates to take over the GC lead.

Marijn exploded off Lukas Nerurkar's wheel 250 meters before the finish line in Junglinster, driving up the right side of the road at full tilt. It was a long, long sprint, but no one could pass him. In the final meters, Marijn kicked one last time into his pedals and threw his arms in the air as he crossed the line. Thanks to the bonus seconds he earned with his third place on Stage 1 yesterday and today's win, Marijn now leads the general classification.

"I felt good, and I felt that was the moment," he said after celebrating with his teammates. "I had the momentum, so I just went. With 25 meters left, I felt it was 25 meters too far, but I kept going. I was super motivated to get this victory. I couldn't stop anymore. I needed to win this one."

Marijn's victory was a win for the whole squad. From the start in Niederkorn to the final circuits around Junglinster, they backed him all the way. Jardi van der Lee spent most of the race on the front of the peloton, keeping the early break in check and the speed up as they raced across the Grand Duchy, while rookie Magnus Carstensen, who has stepped up for this race from EF Education-Aevolo, fetched bottles and helped keep Marijn out of the wind. Max Walker and Mikkel Honoré marked attacks when the racing heated up on the tough final circuit. And then Lukas took over. As the peloton hurtled forward in the final kilometers, he kept his cool, surging ahead to drop Marijn off at just the right spot.

"It was quite hectic with some attacks on the local lap," Marijn said. "Mikkel is our GC guy, and he was feeling good, so he jumped with a few guys, but the goal was always to go for the sprint with me. The team was super strong at keeping me in a good position, and we never really lost control. Lukas led it out really well, exactly like we'd planned on the bus this morning, and luckily I had the legs to do a long sprint. I went a bit too early, but it was good enough."

After this stage win, Marijn and his teammates will now focus on the GC race. With lots of climbing and a time trial still ahead, Marijn hopes he is just keeping the yellow jersey warm for teammate Mikkel Honoré.

"The plan is still to go for Mikkel," Marijn said. "I have no ambitions for the GC. I really wanted this victory, and now we go all in for him."
