Looking back on the 2026 Giro d’Italia Women
The lessons of the Italian grand tour
June 7, 2026
It’s been nine stages of sprinting, climbing, teamwork, and grit, and we’ve loved every minute.
The 2026 edition of the Giro d’Italia has been a memorable one.
Alex Volstad learned from each sprint, showing growth with each passing stage. Our grand tour rookie is knocking on the door of her first pro win. Mags Vallieres raced with an understated panache that we’ve come to expect from our world champion. Mirre Knaven, Nina Berton, and Stina Kagevi never hesitated to support our leaders, keeping them protected, well positioned, and cared for over more than 1,000 kilometers of Italy’s most challenging roads. Kristen Faulkner’s signature late attacks animated the finales and Alexis Magner’s leadership proved over and over why we rely on her to be our road captain.
And we’ll never forget the hectic summit finish on the Colle delle Finestre!
Hear from our riders what they’ll take away from this year’s Giro.
Nina Berton
My favorite memory is the cinnamon buns after yesterday’s stage after we got told that it was shortened. We had this whole interesting trip back down. The cinnamon buns were a boost.
I’ve learned that I’m sick of 6-7. I can’t hear it anymore. This is what I learned this Giro.
It was just nice to see how we grew as a team at the Giro, how our leadouts got stronger and stronger. We’ll take it into the last stage and have some fun.
Kristen Faulkner
Either nailing our leadout into the Finestre or after the race was cancelled halfway through and we had an hour drive in the car on the way home and we just stopped at random bakery at the side of the road, this little Italian mom and pop shop and we got these sandwiches. We had no money with us because we had just been racing so we asked Daniel for some cash and just went in and they let us use their bathroom and they made us these custom sandwiches. It was just a quintessential small bakery in a small town in Italy. It was really fun.
In past years, I’ve really struggled with the heat. This year it’s been warm but not unhealthily hot and so I’ve been able to manage the heat really well. I was really worried about that coming in.
Stina Kagevi
The funniest thing was yesterday when me and Kristen didn’t know it was the finish before the top. We were like, ‘Huh?’ and just so confused and it was so funny. You don’t expect it but then it ended up being pretty fun. You remember it.
I learned a lot from the girls. Getting together as a group. It’s a good group here, a fun time.
I will take [these lessons] with me. Just getting together because we haven’t raced together so much so now we can build up a good group together based on everyone's different experiences.
Mirre Knaven
Finishing the really hard stage with a lot of climbing. I was in the gruppetto for most of it and that was the hardest part. I was just really glad to be done.
Anything can happen in Italy.
Same as last year at the Giro, I’ll remember to not give up and to always keep pushing even if it’s hard because you’re going to have hard days for sure.
Alexis Magner
Probably being fake annoyed at Alex and Mirre for their 6-7 jokes but I actually think it’s pretty funny.
I haven’t done a stage race or a grand tour with any of these girls except for Kristen so it’s a big week of learning everybody’s strengths and weaknesses throughout a race like this, their quirks and how people start acting when they get tired. I’ve learned a lot about the team.
Hopefully I’ll take some climbing fitness with me. Ciao bella!
Magdeleine Vallieres
Yesterday when the leadoff to the climb. The team did so well. So powerful. It was so good to see.
Like Mirre said, be ready. Anything can happen. It’s been a good experience. A lot of learning. It’s been nice with this group. It’s a really strong group. Just riding together I think we’ve learned a lot.
Alex Volstad
I’ve probably learned how to pace myself. I feel like it’s been a long race and starting to feel it in the legs so you’ve got to know when to go easy and when to go hard.
We’ve had a good group so we’ve had a lot of fun jokes just hanging out at meals. It’s a bit of an adventure together. I feel like we’ve come closer.
To get to the last day is pretty cool. What more could I ask for. It’s been pretty fun to get in the mix in some sprints. It’s been fun.
I’ve learned some stuff in the sprint and that I need to get fitter because the legs are hurting but I think they hurt everyone.
