Daniel Martinez's Bio
Team boss Jonathan Vaughters has called Daniel Martinez “one of the most, if not the most, talented Colombian riders of his generation,” but until Colombia Oro y Paz at the start of the 2018 season, you may not have his heard his name. Daniel flew under the radar during his first two European seasons, racing for Willier Triestina-Sella Italia in 2016-2017.
Thrown into races like the Giro d’Italia and Il Lombardia as a 20-year-old, Daniel lacked the opportunity to develop at a pace typically afforded the sport’s youngest riders. Given a chance to perform on smaller stages like Tour of Turkey, where he finished fourth overall, and Milano-Tornio, where he climbed to seventh-place alongside the world’s best, Daniel consistently delivered.
A crafty climber, Daniel is also skilled against the clock. He delivered #PinkArgyle’s first podium of the season when he time trialled to silver at the Colombian National Championships. His versatile skill set suggests he has a future as a Grand Tour contender. For now, he’s content to support compatriot Rigoberto Uran’s Tour de France ambitions.
