Cobbled classics campaign begins with two top 10s at Omloop

Nina Berton and Luke Lamperti deliver standout rides in Flanders

February 28, 2026

EF Pro Cycling got the cobbled classics off to a great start on Saturday at Omloop Nieuwsblad.

Nina Berton went on the attack deep in the finale of the Flemish season opener and held on to ninth place. Luke Lamperti sprinted to tenth place at the end of the men’s race in Ninove.

It was Nina’s best ever result in the classics she loves so much. The Luxembourger attacked just before the Berendries with a group of four and hammered over Tenbosse and the Parikeberg to hit the Muur van Geraardsbergen with a 40-second advantage. As attacks flew behind her, Nina gave everything up the Muur, rounding the cobbled corner by the chapel with a group of favorites. Together, they chased hard behind the two leaders. On the Bosberg, Nina had to let a gap go, but she never gave up and managed to time trial her way back to the group. In the sprint, she cranked over a huge gear and finished ninth.

The men’s race was chaos. A wet wind was howling across the Flemish fields, making the race a constant, nervous fight for position. Mikkel Honoré and Colby Simmons were caught in crashes, but managed to escape with bruises and road rash. Kasper Asgreen opened the finale with a huge attack out of the peloton on the Wolvenberg, but was reeled back. From there on out, the pace never let up. Luke hung tough over the final climbs, pushing to the front over the Molenberg, Haaghoek, Leberg, and Berendries. He crested the Muur and then the Bosberg with the first chase group and charged up the left side of the peloton in the sprint to finish tenth.

Nina Berton

It was a super nice race for the whole team. We did a great job positioning and staying together. Compared to last year, we could really see how much we’ve improved. At a certain point, a group went just before the Berendries, and thought, okay, that's the group to go with, because the big teams were up there. So, I just went with them. We actually got the perfect gap into the Kapelmuur. When the leaders came in the corner, I could stay with them, not with the first two, but I was in the second group. I just waited and kept all my energy for the sprint. I couldn't get out of the saddle anymore, but ninth was not too bad. I’m happy that we could finish it off as a team. We learned a lot, and I think the next classics will be exciting.

I knew that if I kept a bit of energy on the climbs, I would have the short bursts to go over the top. It’s much easier for me to save energy like this. I just did it the way I know I can do it. I’m happy and excited for Strade.

I was so, so happy with my new bike.
We couldn't ask for something better, especially with the SRAM. On the cobbles, I really liked it. With the tires and everything, it is a really good setup.

Luke Lamperti

It was bad weather from the start and chaotic with a lot of crushes. To be honest, I felt quite good. It is just a hectic game, in the end. We rode for a top five, but didn't quite get there. The start of the classics is always nice, always special. It was a lovely day here in Belgium. The bike was great on the cobbles, all 50,000 of them.

Babette van der Wolf

Nina was so strong. I cannot say anything else. She was so good. It’s promising for the next races. I am proud of her.

Kasper Asgreen

It was nice to race a bit and get out in front when I attacked there.
I tried. It was a bit too early, but it is better to try something than just sit there and wait. Maybe, I was a bit too excited.

Alex Volstad

It was hard. It was hectic, but I liked it. It was fun. We got into the flow state and were just moving through the peloton. We worked well together. We got our stuff together. It was good. Nina was amazing. Holy moly. It was fun. I want to come back for sure.

EF Education-EasyPost sports director, Sebastian Langeveld

The day was 50-50, I would say. We hoped for more. We were racing for the podium.
The race circumstances were what they were. From the Molenberg, it was pretty chaotic. There was a crash, but it was pretty honest. We lost Marijn.
We lost Colby. Kasper did a really good move. We were hoping, at that point, to get a few guys up the road, so he could survive the Molenberg, and then be in the group with Van der Poel. Luke and Alba were good.
Alba was behind the crash, pre Muur. Luke did a super strong race. At the end, he ended up tenth. It was hard for him to control. He was in a position where it was always going to be hard to sprint for fourth, because the other guys were attacking. So, it was not quite the result we hoped for, but I would say it was a good race for the team. We have some positives to take with us for tomorrow and onwards.
