Lachlan Morton’s ultimate playlist

King Krule, The Doors, The XX, and more...

It’s no big secret. Lachlan loves his wife, his dog, his family, riding his bike and listening to music. It’s pretty simple, really.

Lachlan MortonLachlan Morton is no stranger to long solo journeys. From green pastures in England, to the sandy deserts in Utah, he often finds himself riding his bike in far flung places, off the beaten path, with only his music and his thoughts to occupy him.

It’s safe to say that after spending hundreds of hours riding his bike and listening to music, Lachlan Morton has fine tuned his riding playlist. So, if you are in need of new music recommendations, or just want to listen to what Lachy is listening to, here are his top 12 songs and why he picked them.

1. City Calm Down – Joan, I’m Disappearing

Reminds me of Australia. I think a lot of it has to do with the incredible film clip. I like songs that can put you in another place for a few minutes.

2. The Blaze – Territory

This was a big song for me last year. I like listening to it when I’m away. It reminds me of family and childhood, but in a way that’s really motivating and reassuring.

3. Humiliation- The National.

This whole album kept me going in 2014. I was in a confusing time of my life and this album always just spoke to the right things. Nice to drive to. Rachel’s not big on it so it’s more of a solo thing for me.

4. King Krule – Easy Easy

Something about his voice and the simple lyrics delivers a big message. I never get sick of this one.

5. Darkside – Paper Trails

Rachel took me to see these guys play at a festival in Barcelona back in 2014 and they blew me away. Such a unique but somehow familiar sound. Best enjoyed with the volume up.

6. The Doors – The End

I never really heard The Doors until my early 20’s and then I couldn’t unhear them. Such a visual and transporting song. Good for big solo missions.

7. Flight Facilities – Clair De Lune

I love this song. It reminds me of when Rachel and I were doing the long distance thing. I listen to it when I miss her.

8. Daniel Johnston – Worried Shoes

I originally heard the Karen O version and then Rach put me onto the original. I get something different from it each time.

9. Pusha T – Numbers On The Boards

10. Kings of Leon- Knocked Up

Puts me back in Port Macquarie as a teenager. I had a really great childhood and this song reminds me of the country roads I grew up on.

11. Lou Reed – Street Hassle

I love a song that tells a story. This is a sad three part epic. Sometimes it makes me want to cry, sometimes it makes me feel lucky.

12. The XX – Reconsider (Jamie XX Remix)

An already amazing song improved. Takes away some of the amazing restraint in the xx music.
