Enrico Battaglin (LottoNL-Jumbo) won a thrilling finale into Santa Ninfa to close out the fifth stage of the Giro d’Italia. Race leader Rohan Dennis (BMC) successfully defended the maglia rosa and will head into stage six with a one second lead over Tom Dumoulin (Sunweb).
As for #PinkArgyle, Mike Woods and Nate Brown were part of the 42-rider group that finished on the same time as Battaglin. Woods remains 53-seconds off Dennis in 18th place.
“It was a bit of a transitional day,” said Joe Dombrowski. “Tomorrow we have our first summit finish. It was a similar finish today as yesterday, pretty punchy, a little 1km kicker at the finish . We were again looking at riding for Mike woods because he rode great yesterday. These sort of finishes suit him.
“Overall we had a good day,” Dombrowski added. “Most of missed out on the crashes, it was kind of hectic. We’re looking forward to tomorrow, which will be the first test of this year’s Giro.”
