“We took the race on with a long way to go. It was a risk, and it almost paid off. Everyone was tired at the end. It was a hard day. We all gave it our all. Can’t ask for anything more.” – Hugh Carthy
#PinkArgyle lined up for the third stage of Colorado Classic with a clear plan and the six-man squad delivered. While we might not achieved the desired results, we couldn’t be any prouder of the way the team attacked today’s race.
Dani Martinez attacked on the lower slopes of Lookout Mountain, drawing a group of seven clear. #PinkArgyle put three riders in the move in Martinez, Carthy and Joe Dombrowski. The UHC-led peloton kept the group on a short leash, but when they appeared to tire in the closing kilometers, it seemed possible the move just might stay away.
It didn’t. The race ended in a bunch sprint in the end, and Gavin Mannion (UHC) clung tight to the blue race leader’s jersey.
We still saw three of our riders climb onto the podium. Martinez remains best young rider. Carthy has moved into the KOM jersey. Dombrowski was awarded most aggressive. We’re going to be a colorful crew during Sunday’s final stage.
