Awwww, we love racing in Colorado, and today reminded us why. It’s the terrain and the scenery and the fans and the familiarity and the fun — all beautifully captured by the Grubers.
#PinkArgyle put in a strong performance, riding on the front of the peloton for much of the race to keep Dani Martinez in contention for the general classification ahead of Friday’s time trial. Gage Hecht (Aevolo) bridged up to the early breakaway and put in a last lap attack to solo to victory. Travis McCabe (UHC) won the bunch sprint for second. Taylor Phinney was top #PinkArgyle, rounding out the top ten. The rest of the squad, save our staigiare José Neves, finished on bunch time.
“We were committed to making sure we didn’t lose any time,” said sport director Ken Vanmarcke. “In the end, if we could sprint, it was going to be a bonus. I think the guys did excellent controlling the whole stage to make sure there was no threat for GC. So mission accomplished.”
