Back to school

Our 2020 debut, Jonas' birthday, and more

A mixture of nerves and excitement always seems to fill the air as the riders regroup in Adelaide for the Tour Down Under, the first major race of the season. There is a real “back to school” feeling that surrounds the race. For most teams, the Tour Down Under is a chance to test their team ahead of the long race season ahead.

With four new riders making up our seven-man squad, growing pains were expected. But as the team raced through the hills, beaches and vineyards that surround Adelaide, only good vibes and teamwork were on display.

While this week had countless highlights, here are some of our riders’ favorite moments from the 2020 Tour Down Under.

Mitch Docker

“I think we started to really learn about each other’s strengths and weaknesses. This is something that takes time, you need to understand what a teammate can and can’t do. We had some great debriefs, constructive criticism was given and received when necessary and we were able to move forward each day and re-adjust and fine tune.”

Neilson Powless

“The commitment the guys had from day one was really motivating. We didn’t come away with the results we hoped for, but I can already tell that if we keep racing together like we did in last week, the results will come.”

Jens Keukeleire

“I am already 31 years old and I have come to realize that our careers go by so quickly. Coming to the Tour Down Under really makes me realize just how lucky we are and how beautiful our job is.”

Jonas Rutsch

“My birthday was definitely the highlight of my week here in Australia. We had coffee in the morning and in the evening the whole team surprised me with a little birthday party.”
